> Housing development |
Planning permission had been granted for the demolition of a house and its outbuildings, and the construction of 51 new homes. Ecological assessment and appropriate surveys were undertaken on behalf of the developer as required by the Local Planning Authority to identify if and how bats were using the house and outbuildings.
A European Protected Species Derogation Licence application was made to Natural England and a licence obtained for the client. To ensure that the application was successful and that the client remained within the law a detailed works schedule, mitigation and enhancement proposals (such bat roost provision, light shields on some of the streetlights and landscaping), an ecological clerk of works programme (to supervise certain aspects of the work) and a post-development monitoring programme were provided. To comply with planning conditions, advice was given to the client to enable suitable provision for nesting birds, including barn owl within the site.
